The Shetland Anchor Project

In April 2004 pureiron.com sponsored a trip by a small group of blacksmiths to Shetland to the forge of Bruce Wilcock.  In three days we made an anchor out of 3" square billets of pure iron using only traditional techniques.  The skills needed for such a task are almost extinct but Bruce is very happy to pass these on so they will not be lost to future generations of blacksmiths.

A 45 minute film of the event is now available; £2 from the sale of each copy will be donated to the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths' Education and Training Fund.which helps to support young trainees in the craft.

The anchor itself has been donated to the Shetland Amenities Trust and will be a star exhibit in the new Shetland Maritime Museum currently being built in Lerwick.

For your copy please send a cheque for £12.50 (including P&P) made out to Don Barker and post it to Bracken Edge Forge, Plainville, Wigginton, York YO32 2RG.  Please state whether you prefer DVD or VHS  Video tape (otherwise DVD will be sent by default).
